You know what you don’t want to do. But what do you do instead?
When it’s time to leave the park, get into the car seat, turn off the television, or accept that there won’t be another biscuit, your child’s extreme negative reaction can make a perfectly reasonable limit feel overwhelming. You might respond by repeating yourself, trying to distract your furious toddler, or giving in because you simply can’t bear another minute of screaming.
Then, when it’s over, you replay it. You wonder whether you were too harsh, too soft, or simply not cut out for parenting a toddler.
You’re not the only parent who feels this way.
You’re trying to raise your toddler with love, connection, and respect.
You don’t want to frighten your child into cooperating, nor do you want to punish them for having negative feelings, but you also know that giving in whenever they become upset isn’t the answer.
Unfortunately, knowing what you don’t want to do doesn’t always tell you what to do instead.
Calm Parent, Confident Toddler gives you a simple way to prepare for these moments, respond while they’re happening, and recover afterwards.
Calm Parent, Confident Toddler isn’t about creating a child who never gets upset or always behaves beautifully.
It’s about helping you become the kind of parent who knows what to do when your child is upset, because children become more confident when they feel understood, safe, and secure enough to experience their strongest feelings without fear of losing your love.
So why does it keep ending up like this?
It isn’t because you’re failing, and it isn’t because your child is unusually difficult.
It’s because you’re trying to make good decisions in the middle of one of the hardest situations a parent faces.
In a matter of seconds you’re trying to work out whether this is a limit that really matters, whether your child needs comfort or simply needs you to stay with the decision you’ve already made, whether they’re overwhelmed, overtired or frustrated, whether everyone is safe, and whether you’re handling it well enough.
No wonder so many parents walk away from these moments wondering whether they handled them badly, chose the wrong limit, or somehow damaged the relationship with their child.
Most parenting advice concentrates on what to say while your child is upset. But when you’re tired, running late, carrying shopping, or trying to get a screaming toddler safely into a car seat, clever phrases are rarely the problem.
The difficulty isn’t a lack of love, patience, or good intentions. It’s that most parents have never been shown how to make sense of what is happening in these moments, or what to do next.
That’s exactly what we’ll be working on together over the six weeks.
Everything we do in Calm Parent, Confident Toddler comes back to one simple idea: difficult moments become much easier when you know what to do before they happen, while they’re happening, and after they’re over.
A simpler way to handle difficult moments
Instead of trying to work out what to do once your child is already upset, you’ll learn how to prepare beforehand, respond in the moment, and recover afterwards.
Prepare
Look at what may be making this situation difficult for your child, decide what can be made easier, and be clear about the limit that still needs to be held.
Respond
Say less, stay close, and hold the limit without shouting, arguing, threatening, or giving in.
Recover
Notice what happened without turning it into proof that you failed. Repair if needed, learn from it, make a plan for next time, then let it go.
What you’ll learn over six weeks
Build a plan you can actually use
You’ll choose one recurring situation that keeps happening in your home and create a practical plan for handling it differently. Together, we’ll look at what may be making it difficult for your child, which limit needs to be held, and how you want to respond before, during, and after the tantrum. Then you’ll try your plan at home so we have something real to review and improve together.
Notice what pulls you away from your plan
You’ll begin noticing the thoughts, feelings, fears, and automatic reactions that can make it difficult to follow the plan you created. Whether you’re worried about being too strict, afraid you’re doing harm, embarrassed by what other people might think, or simply exhausted, you’ll learn to notice what’s happening soon enough to make a different choice more often.
Make difficult moments easier before they happen
You’ll learn to notice what may be making the situation more difficult than it needs to be. Together, we’ll look at small changes that may help your child cope better, while becoming clearer about which limits still need to be held, even if your child is unhappy about it.
Stay close while holding the limit
You’ll practice what to do once your child is already angry, disappointed, or overwhelmed. You’ll learn to use fewer words, stay emotionally available, help when necessary, keep everyone safe, and hold the limit without arguing, threatening, or giving in.
Recover without carrying it for the rest of the day
A difficult moment doesn’t need to ruin the rest of the day. You’ll learn how to calm yourself, reconnect with your child, repair when things didn’t go as you hoped, and learn from what happened without turning one difficult moment into proof that you’re failing.
Use the same process again and again
By the end of the course, you’ll have a practical process you can return to whenever another difficult situation arises. Instead of starting from scratch each time, you’ll know how to understand what’s happening, make a plan, put it into practice, and adapt it as your child grows.
Exactly what you’ll get
Six live weekly sessions
Over six weeks, we’ll meet live each week for 75 minutes to learn, practice, answer questions, and adapt your plan as you go.
Rather than listening to information and hoping you’ll remember it later, you’ll practice what you’ve learned, review what happened, and adjust your plan as you go.
The group is limited to 10 participants, so there will be time for questions, discussion, and help to apply what you’re learning to situations in your own home.
A workbook you’ll keep coming back to
You’ll receive a printable workbook that helps you put everything you’ve learned into practice.
Rather than trying to remember what was covered in each session, you’ll leave every week with your notes, exercises, reflections, and an updated plan you can return to whenever you need it.
A plan built around your family
Together, we’ll create a practical plan for what you’ll do before, during, and after the tantrum.
You’ll try it at home, review what happened, and we’ll make adjustments throughout the course, rather than being left with advice that sounds sensible but is difficult to use in real life.
Personal feedback on your plan
You’ll receive personalised written feedback on one of your plans, helping you refine your approach before trying it again.
Instead of wondering whether you’re on the right track, you’ll receive guidance that’s specific to your family and the situation you’re working on.
A chance to see what’s changed
About a month after the course finishes, we’ll meet again to look at what’s changed, celebrate what’s working, troubleshoot anything that’s still difficult, and help you decide where to focus next.
Support while you’re putting it into practice
For the duration of the course, and for two months afterwards, you’ll have access to our private alumni community where you can ask questions, share what’s working, and get extra guidance twice a week as you continue putting what you’ve learned into practice.
If you’d like ongoing support after that, you’ll be invited to stay as a founding member at a reduced monthly rate.
Learn at your own pace between sessions
Every teaching session is recorded, so if you’d like to revisit something or can’t attend one week, you won’t fall behind. Questions and personal discussions aren’t recorded, allowing everyone to speak openly and honestly during the live sessions.
Why this first group is different
This is the first time I’m running Calm Parent, Confident Toddler as a live six-week course.
Everything you’ll be learning has already been developed, but like any live programme, I’ll continue refining the experience as I teach it.
Because this is the founding cohort, I’m keeping the group small. That means more time for questions, more opportunity for discussion, and more individual guidance than I’ll be able to offer once future cohorts become larger.
As a thank you for helping shape the first live delivery of the course, I’m offering this founding cohort at a reduced introductory price. Future cohorts will pay more.
I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone well and giving each family the attention they deserve.
